From Jerry’s Diary 7/28/2004  Wednesday…Day 260

“Now, let me put my cytogenetic response into perspective for you. I know that some of you refer to yourselves on the discussion boards as “CML turtles” meaning that you are slow to get a cytogenetic remission and like the tortoise in the race with the hare, you will get there sooner or later. Well, I am not even a turtle. In fact I haven’t even been in the race. I am a non-responder. Every time I have even left the starting line I have ended up turning around and running the wrong direction. Not only am I a non- responder, I am resistant to Gleevec both hematologically and cytogenetically. When I started this trial, I was taking 800 mg of Gleevec and 4,000 mg (8 capsules) of hydrea a day just to keep my white blood cell count in control. There was no chance for me to have a cytogenetic response. Now, on a relatively low dose of BMS-354825 and with no side effects…I have a cytogenetic response…What a drug!!!”
