A tandem triplication of the long arm of chromosome 1, trp(1)(q), is a rare secondary karyotypic event in hematologic malignancies, and only 27 cases of 1q triplication have been reported in the literature : acute myeloid leukemia/myelodysplastic syndrome (eight cases), lymphoma (nine cases), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (six cases), multiple myeloma (three cases), and Fanconi anemia without other hematologic malignancies (one case). As far as we know, however, there have been no reports of 1q triplication in patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) or other myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). Here, we describe two additional cases of 1q triplication in such myeloid neoplasms. (Source: Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics)
